The Culinary Team

Kalen Fortuna

A native of the Low Country, Executive Chef Kalen Fortuna first fell in love with food and the ocean at a young age.  Chef Fortuna began his career working in some of the best restaurants in Charleston.  A Peninsula Grill alum, Fortuna first worked at the Planters Inn while attending Wando High School.  Peninsula Grill engraved a deep passion and love of fine service and fine food in the young chef.
Chef Fortuna further honed his skills as Chef De Cuisine of Little Palm Island, the award-winning boutique resort in Florida Keys, where he spent over decade further embracing the ocean and learning everything that is has to offer.
After Hurricane Irma, Fortuna and team went on to open The Perry Hotel in Key West, bringing its culinary program to forefront on the island’s food scene.
When the opportunity opened to rejoin the Peninsula Grill team as Executive Chef, he quickly knew it was time to come back to the Low Country and the restaurant that started it all.
“I was fortunate enough to join the Peninsula Grill team at a young and impressionable age.  The integrity and standards I learned here followed me throughout my career.  I am very excited to help lead this already outstanding team and can’t wait to see where we can take Peninsula in the coming years.”

Caleb Hulsey

Caleb began his culinary career at Atlanticville on Sullivan's Island almost twenty years ago.  During his ten year tenure, Caleb's passion for the food scene grew.  In 2014 Chef Hulsey had the opportunity to join Chef Kalen in the Florida Keys at Little Palm Island Resort and quickly moved up the ranks to Sous Chef.  The two chefs worked together on the island helping maintain the 5-star culinary program.

Chef Hulsey was most recently named the Chef de Cuisine at Salishan Resort on the Oregan Coast. Caleb is back home and excited to bring what he has learned along the way to Peninsula Grill.
